Introduction
In Spring 2022, the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges (ASCCC) made available the Cultural Humility Toolkit [1] and related resources as a model for local academic senates to develop their own cultural humility action plan to help guide and enhance the inclusion, diversity, equity, anti-racism, and accessibility efforts engaged in by local academic senates and the ASCCC. In the face of growing federal efforts to roll back diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives, the ASCCC remains committed to inclusion, diversity, equity, anti-racism, and accessibility (IDEAA) as core values guiding our work across the California Community Colleges system. As part of this commitment, we’re excited to offer two Cultural Humility Series options in partnership with Allied Path Consulting. These series invite participants to reflect, learn, and grow as we strengthen our collective ability to serve our diverse students with empathy, humility, and intention.
The Cultural Humility Institute, coordinated by Allied Path Consulting, will kick off our professional development offerings with a summer intensive focused on building knowledge, skills, and abilities for campus educators and shared governance leaders. We are offering two exciting opportunities. Our summer intensive and our year-long program are both virtual events tailored to empower and inspire faculty with engaging sessions and practical coaching. Explore key themes of cultural humility, interpersonal communication skills, dimensions of power, and professional/personal growth, with insights into institutional consistency, developing a cultural humility action plan, and applying for the ASCCC Cultural Humility Toolkit.
