Stereotypes, Prejudice, Discrimination
This 2-session course covers personally held stereotypes, prejudices, and discriminatory behavior, including how these behaviors affect client services, especially the delivery of harm reduction tools and techniques.
What you will learn
- Define and identify personally held stereotypes, prejudices, and discriminatory behavior
- Explain ways to unlearn and challenge personally held stereotypes, prejudices, and discriminatory behavior
- Explain how personally held stereotypes, prejudices and discriminatory behavior affect client services, especially the delivery of harm reduction tools and techniques
Workshops typically include:
- Introductions and icebreakers
- Review of pyramid of hate
- Viewing of Silent Beats
- Overview of activities that facilitate deeper understanding of cognitive frames and bias development
- Small group discussion on anti-racism and deactivating prejudice
- Attitudinal healing and action planning
Who should attend:
- DEI leaders, chief diversity or equity officers, administrators, classified professionals, students, program leaders, clergy, community center staff, counselors, educators, therapists, coaches, social workers, and mentors
- Anyone who works directly with other people
- Anyone who works in an organization/network/coalition dedicated to ensuring the cultural safety, health, well-being, sense of belonging, and equity for themselves and others
